"Parcel for you, Miss Elendil." The porter tipped his cap after handing her the brown paper bundle. "And a letter. Asked to tell you to read that first."

Lexi raised an eyebrow, took the letter and slit it open with a claw. The porter looked a little fascinated. "Something else?" She asked. He shook his head. "Then beat it." She shut the door as he bolted. Scaring messengers wasn't fair, she knew that as she retracted her fangs and claws, but it was kinder than shooting them. Heading back to the drawing room Lexi tossed the parcel onto a sofa and settled down to read the letter.

Lexi,
If things are going according to plan, I just left. I know what I probably said and wanted to say are two very different things, since my mouth always had a nasty habit of just saying the best thing, not the right thing.
I don’t know how else to put this, since it’s taken me so long to do this, so I’m just going to start. I just feel like I’m always falling asleep and I can’t see straight anymore. My muscles are so knotted, moving feels like a melee, and my backs so bowed it’s almost a U-shape.
Every time I go out now, I put on my best mask, but I’m still afraid it’ll be the last time.
I was propped up by the lies and the promises – from HQ and from me. The lie that there’d be a way back, or that I’d get to see her one last time. But I was just saving my place, as life just moved on, forgetting me.
So I’ve decided that maybe it’s time I saw that world. One last time.
I was only here for a while Lexi, I wasn’t meant make friends. I’d be an awful Raven, if I could go back. But I can’t.
There isn’t a portal. I’m not sure they were ever working on it. And, even if there was, we know every three months they’d be calling me out of retirement on some technicality, or screwing with my home world to force my hand. I’d spend my ‘Retirement’ just waiting for the next knock on the door.
And chances are I wouldn’t be able to see her again. It’s been over 100 years, and she was already older than me, Lexi. The chances of me getting back there in time are slim.
Which is why I gave you that date. The parcel contains a letter for Vika, and two oblong boxes.
I hope you still remember how my name’s actually spelt, but if not, it’s the box with the longer word. Whatever you do, don’t give Vika that box.
I have a feeling you’re probably wondering why at this point. They have primary feathers in. Pulling out a primary messes up our flight even more than a normal bird’s.
Think of them as a Laguz’s engagement ring. Only I’ve never seen a Laguz word for ‘Divorce’ or ‘Crime of Passion’...
Basically, the right box tells her I love her. The wrong one tells her I never will.
And you’re the only person I trust who’ll live long enough to pass on the message. I’m dying on my feet, but patience is not my style. And I’m so tired that I’ve gotta go.
Either you know where I’ll be...
Or you won’t be able to stop me...
Goodbye, Lexi.
Nabarl
P.S.
For what it’s worth, I’m sorry for this too...

Lexi stared at the words in front of her. It was Nabarl's handwriting, she was sure of it, so it wasn't faked. It sounded like him too, so that ruled out him being forced to write it. No, it was real, definitely. 'It sounds like a suicide note...' The Voice in Lexi's head sounded worried. Lexi had to agree with it. She reread the last section. "I've gotta go. Either you know where I'll be or you won't be able to stop me..." But where? Where would he be? And why should she, specifically, know? What would she know that someone else wouldn't? Where had they been that no-one else had? Their first quest together! They'd been the only ones on it, no-one else had been there. That world, the Earth variant with the school of wizardry. That had to be where he was talking about. He'd said it had been a hundred years. That sounded about right for how long it had been since the end of that first quest together. But they'd been all over that world, or at least an entire country of it. Somewhere specific. He had to be talking about somewhere specific. Diagon Alley? No, too crowded, too public. One of the little towns they'd found? No, they'd both decided never to go to any of them again, given what had happened. Where? Where would he be? 'The church' said the Voice, quietly. Lexi closed her eyes and nodded. Of course. The abandoned church they'd sheltered in from the storm just after her first flying lesson. It had to be there. The church was where they'd learned to trust each other. Nabarl had offered up his life and she'd refused to take it. It put them on the same team. She'd been in serious trouble for breaching that particular contract. Someone had really wanted him dead. He'd be there, no doubt about it. After ten minutes of racing around her house, Lexi grabbed the parcel and shoved it in her bag along with a few provisions and her wand. She strapped her twin blades to her hips, better to be prepared this time, not that she thought she'd have to fight him, though she'd definitely win these days. Looking around one last time she made for the door.

Nabarl flew through the hole in the wall, and landed in the familiar belfry.
Place hasn't changed at all... He thought as he watched the black clouds gather above. Neither has the weather...
He took out the stopwatch he'd brought with him, and set it going. I'll give her 12 hours. Better get started setting up, I guess...

Lexi hurtled through the door of the QA's Underworld outpost. "Minion, I need a favour." The strange little creature, who had been born looking like an old man and would die looking like an old man, looked up at her from behind his desk. Lexi got a better look at his face. "Minion number two?" She asked, surprised. He shook his head. "Minion number two-oh-two, miss. Minion number two was my great great great great great-" "-I get the idea." Lexi cut him off. How long did Minions live anyway? "I need a favour, Two-oh-two." "Of course, miss. How may I be of service today?" She handed over a sheet of paper. "I need to get to these coordinates. Can you whip me up a portal?" "Not to that precise location, I don't think, but I can get you close." "As close as you can, this is an emergency." Minion number two-oh-two nodded his little head, got down off his chair and shuffled over to the portal generator. He was so impossibly bent over Lexi couldn't help but think of him as a walking question mark. Still, he got a portal open for her and that was the main thing. "Thanks, I won't forget this." She said, handing the minion a small block of wood, roughly two inches cubed. The minion's eyes went wide with delight as he took it and happily nibbled a corner. "Oak!" He cried "Real oak!" "You'll get another if I get where I'm going in time." Lexi said with a smile as she crossed the threshold of the portal.

Nabarl sat down. Everything was finished, now he just had to wait.
He took a deep breath, and turned towards the Church doors.

((ooc: How quickly do you want Lexi to find him? I can make it last hours or minutes - your quest, your call))

(OOC: As long as it's more than the hour the porter waited before delivering the package, I've not actually got a preference. if we say double that - We never actually found the church on the map, so even with getting a portal to close by, it could be an awkward place to find.)

((ooc: My thinking exactly.))
Lexi stepped out onto familiar ground underfoot. It looked like the right world at least, that was good. Now... Where the hell was she? A sudden fear came over her. They'd never actually found the church on a map, she knew the coordinates, but that included world and universe, they were QA coordinates, she'd never had to work with anything else. Frustrated with herself she pulled her map out of her bag. Now. Where was that town they'd found the wheelchair in? The church had been somewhere near there, hadn't it? Was that it? That little speck? No, that was dirt. There! There it was! Excellent! Now. Where the hell was she?
