"If these people are anything like the ones on my home world they will be unfortunately be expecting me to do most of the talking as I'm the man" Damien told her
He shook his head sadly before opening the door into the tavern; he hated the inequality of ages like this one. He had worked with so many remarkable women not just when he was in the army but while he's been in the QA as well. He spared a thought for Kina and Lexi, sad that he may never see those two again.
"Good evening. I'd like a room for two and well to ask you a small favour" He told the woman behind the tavern's bar
"We have a room spare. What pray tell is this favour?"
Damien placed all the coin he had on him which was more than enough for the room. Gods he hoped this woman didn't support the Thalmor.
"We had a small disgreement with the Thalmor in Whiterun. Now we didn't kill any of their number; we would just prefer them not to know that we are here"
The woman took the money and nodded curtly
"We here offer them no allegiance so you will be safe here with us for now"
The woman led the way to their room and after she had closed the door, Damien helped Katara into one of the chairs seated at a small wooden table.

"So what's the Thalmor?" Katara asked, leaning back a little. She understood that people generally didn't take kindly to such bizarre strangers in their midst, but she'd seen no reason for them to go after her the way they had.

Meyla decided to make camp in a little barn behind the tavern for the night, she knew enough magic to keep her safe and hide her from unsuspecting visitors. She would awake at dawn to watch for the strangers, so she could follow them when they left.

Damien routed through his pack and pulled out a book which he slid across the table to Katara.
"They are High Elves by birth but not all High Elves are Thalmor which has unfortunately led to a lot of trouble for them as a race. The Thalmor have been around for centuries as far as I can establish in one form or another. They will to take all the provinces of this land and make them into one great Thalmor nation. They seem to be largely racist, seeing themselves as superior to all others including the Imperials who had some kind of uneasy alliance with them"
Damien placed some food and drink onto the table.
"After a great war the Imperial Empire was forced to sign the White-Gold Concordat well in order to stop all the killing of their people. The Thalmor gained the freedom to move across these lands as they wanted and where the Empire stationed themselves the Thalmor would be there too"
He paused to take a swig of mead.
"As for happened to us in Whiterun which I assume you were going to build to; you are something new not only to the Thalmor but to these lands in general. I think they are worried in case you are from another realm or land and pose a threat to their rule. The book contains more information on them but it was produced by an Imperial publisher so a lot of stuff may have been censored out"

Katara nodded slowly, she was getting good at that. "So, because I'm different, I'm a threat?" That sounded a lot like her own home world "I suppose I should be used to that by now..." She rummaged through her own pack and found the bottle of multicoloured pills. "Mineral supplements" she explained "My kind need certain things in our blood to survive. HQ managed to synthesize them from my blood when they realised how much I needed them. Since I've lost rather a lot of blood today, I figure it couldn't hurt to er on the side of caution." She took a couple of the pills before replacing the bottle in her pack and taking some of the food.

"Err yes that's essentially it. Sorry I probably should have broken that to you more gently"
Damien ate some food before carrying on.
"When I had my powers I had become used to being different and people always regarded me as a threat; must be my charming smile that does it. Oooo speaking of powers do you have any?"

"Powers?" Katara almost laughed "No, only the Elves have magic." She smiled "Us Demons? We create the tech. Though I have been known to be remarkably good with alchemy... Though I've come to learn that that doesn't work on all worlds..."

Damien paused with a piece of bread halfway to his mouth.
"Alchemy as in turning lead into gold alchemy? Or as in potion brewing?"

"As in, with the right ingredients, I can make green fire shoot from my arms." Katara said with a smile. That wasn't technically true, it came from her bracers, but they were on her arms so it was close enough.
