Lexi sighed and looked at the guard.
"I wonder if she knows portals can't be scrambled..." He mused before turning to Lexi "...May I ask why you slowed down?"
"Oh, let her think she's won" Lexi replied, wearily "I can't be bothered to chase her anymore. Besides, she's on parole. QA's got her tagged, we'll catch her again no problem."
The guard nodded. Lexi began to walk away.
"Oh..." He started. Lexi turned around and looked at him. "...About the library?"
"Don't worry, someone from HQ will be by in a few days to take it down."
"How did you know she'd go for it?"
"Please, you don't think it was a mere coincidence I was the one helping her do you?" Lexi smiled "HQ's known what she's been trying to do for some time. We thought we'd make it easier for her. Given how much everyone on the Council wanted him dead, we decided it was more effective to have someone with a personal vendetta go against him as opposed to a hired assassin... It was cheaper too."
"And the book?" The guard asked, intrigued.
"The lab techs knocked it up, I sent out the rumour that it existed. Then, as you know, it was just a matter of letting her get in and steal it."
The guard smiled.
"Well, the Council thanks you for your assistance in this matter. Vincent truly was a scourge upon the Underworld."
"Believe me, I know. I've followed the politics down here all my life, and he's always been the particularly nasty one."
The guard nodded his understanding and agreement.
Lexi nodded to him and left level seven.
Back on level six, Lexi hurried for the QA building, knocked twice and was allowed in.
"Mission accomplished" she smiled at the desk clerk Vampire. He nodded at her.
"This came for you" he said, handing over a scroll.
Lexi rolled her eyes and unrolled it, reading it carefully.
"Oh come on! They promised me a holiday after this one!"
"What's happened?"
"New Quest with immediate effect. I'm to go back to level four to deal with the Tower, but they're sending someone I trust to help me."
"Well, at least you've that..."
"I guess..." Lexi sighed. "Hope it's Kina." The clerk laughed. "See you later then"
"Another time" he smiled as Lexi left.
Lexi headed for the door to level five, sighed and went through...
THE END
