Lexi sighed and nodded. She handed Kina the pictures she was looking through and went into the other room to find Evelyn. It looked like a tornado had been through the room. There was bedding everywhere, the mattress had been overturned. It was a cleaning nightmare! "Talk to me" Lexi said, looking around warily "What've you found?"

"Here, I don't want it anywhere near me," Evelyn said, handing Lexi the ring. She returned to searching, talking as she looked. "I've seen that pattern before. I don't know where, but I have. I'll keep looking for stuff, but if you can identify that, it would be great. You seem to be good at identifying things."

Kina began looking through the room she was in. Her Valkyrie hearing picked up every second of their conversation, and she wasn't really liking Evelyn's tone.
Deciding to keep out of it, Kina rifled through a bookcase near the door of the room.

Lexi raised an eyebrow at the back of Evelyn's head, but said nothing. She turned the ring over in her hands and studied the pattern carefully. An image flashed into her mind. The guard. Evelyn. Level seven. Council chambers. This symbol above every door. 'Thank you' she thought. 'You're welcome' replied the Voice in her head 'I thought you could do with some help' Lexi mentally nodded before turning to Evelyn. "This is a Council symbol" she said calmly, though instantly sensing the implications "You probably saw it on level seven when you killed Vincent, though I doubt it was important enough to make an impression, since you clearly had your mind on other things at that point."

"Yeah. Funny, I must have forgotten. Maybe it has to do with the Questing Association and their whole universal dictatorship. Did you know I now have a grand total of nine hundred and eighty thousand hours? Thats like a hundred and eleven years and around six months," Evelyn said, pulling out the next drawer of the nightstand.

"Maybe you should stop pissing them off then" Lexi suggested with a smile.

From the other room Kina snorted loudly then coughed to cover it up.
'And everyone else,' she thought to herself.

"It doesn't matter what I do," Evelyn said, throwing her hands in the air, "no matter what I can't seem to win. I worked as a good, rule abiding agent for a good six years. Do you know what that got me? Nothing. I made one mistake on one mission, I refused to steal a sacred book from a temple simply because the Questing Association 'wanted to have it' for 'research and novelty.' I wouldn't let the other agents take it either. That earned me seventy three hours. Before you assume that I'm some terrible person nobody likes, stop and consider the people your entire association comes across as."

"Consider the good they do too." Lexi sighed. She couldn't believe she was having this conversation with a Quester. Again. "Without the QA, the Underworld would be in absolute chaos, Earth would be in its seventh world war and there would be beings from other worlds on full on invasions of any world they can get their hands on. A few of us here and there isn't so bad, given the alternative." She faced Evelyn "You broke a rule, and you are being reprimanded. You made your entire quest utterly pointless, wasting everyone's time and energy, and risking their lives. I remember that quest. I got back from another one just before your team did, and the higher-ups were not happy. Do you know what happened, because you refused to take that book? It was destroyed, along with the temple, in a natural disaster that the HQ lab techs had predicted half a year earlier! A cultural legacy was lost, because you decided to break the rules." Lexi glared, fire in her eyes "You may not always understand, and it may seem to you that HQ is being unfair or unjust, but everything they do is for a reason, and if we stop following the rules, everything crumbles and burns around us." With that, Lexi stalked out of the room and back to Kina.

Kina grimaced, after everything the QA had done to her, the girl had a point but then, so had Lexi.
Kina shook her head as memories flooded her brain. She didn't want to think about that, not now.
She carried on looking through the bookcase, when she came across something she didn't like. "Guys!" she shouted, pulling the book out of the case and flipping it open.
She had found a book on Valkyrie, the next one on the shelf was about elves, another about Drafters. She read the spines of all the books on that shelf, it seemed to be completely full of books with information on species of people. Particularly ones that she knew.
She flipped through the Valkyrie book a little more and paled. The book contained information that only a Valkyrie should know...
