((ooc: This quest runs parallel with 'Killing Vincent' and 'Memories'. This is one of the many Earth Parallels, and is Jessica's home world. Human form Questers only, but magic isn't bound, while abnormal appendages are.))
"Do I have to go?" Jessica asked, clearly against the idea.
"If you wish to remain working here, yes." The official didn't even look up from his work.
"I don't wish for anything."
"Then we'll send you back and you can try explaining to a judge again why you shouldn't be behind bars." The official replied, bluntly.
"Like they could keep me there anyway" Jessica retorted.
The official sighed and put down his work, looking her in the eyes.
"Jessica, you're a good Quester. You're smart, mostly compliant and an excellent opportunist. Don't waste that."
"But-"
"You're just checking in. They can't hold you without our consent, and I assure you it has not been given. You are one of us, and we don't like leaving our people behind."
Jessica sighed and nodded.
"Good. Now go. The sooner you get there, the sooner you get back."
She left and made her way to the portal room.
"Good luck" the attendant smiled sympathetically while opening the portal. She sighed and went through.
"Jessica?" Said a male voice behind her. She turned. "Hi, I'm Frank, your escort."
"Can we just get this over with please?" She said, shaking his hand.
"Sure" said Frank, leading the way.
Parole officers weren't best pleased to see her, but they agreed she hadn't violated the terms of her parole, so Jessica was free to go back to the QA.
They were on their way back when it happened.
Alarm bells rang out around HQ. The official stood in the portal room talking to the gathered Questers.
"At five pm local Earth time, one of our Questers, Jessica Rose, was taken while on her way back to us. She was unarmed, but by no means incapable of defending herself. Therefore, whoever took her is likely incredibly powerful. Due to this, magic is not being restricted, just don't get caught. Her locator has been deactivated, so this is a search and rescue mission." He sighed deeply "I want her back alive, people. I promised her she'd be back with us in no time and I don't like it when someone breaks my promises." The portal opened behind him. "Bring her home."
The Questers started dispersing and heading through the portal, presumably to fan out and try to find Jessica.
