All Questers are obliged to abide by these rules at all times unless stated otherwise.
Notes:
Keep calm and happy Questing!
- Thou shall not God-Mod (control another user's character without prior permission from the user)
- Thou shall not kill another user's character (without prior permission from the user)
- Thou shall not write explicit pornography/hentai (keep it clean, people, we're a family forum)
- Thou shall write in past tense prose ("he swung his sword" not "he swings his sword")
- Thou shall not use txt tlk (we're a story-writing forum, so write properly)
- Thou shall make it known before writing out of character (e.g. putting "OOC:", using double brackets, writing "out of character:", etc)
- Thou shall not fight/argue out of character during quests (all major grievances should be settled via characters in the Duelling Arena, or somewhere other than this site)
- Thou shall not be crazily immortal or God-like (contrary to popular belief, your character cannot be the best at everything)
- Thou shall not steal completed quests and pass them off as your own (people worked really hard on these, so respect their work)
- Thou shall not destroy the narrative (making everything convenient, while lovely, is not good storytelling, so add some complications)
Notes:
- Before questing, you need to have a character in the "Questers" section (see the Example Profile Form for details on what is needed in a character profile)
- The QA has magical and technological ways of getting around the language barriers that come with entwining so many worlds (it's not compulsory, but it does help)
- Characters already existing in the worlds (e.g. Harry Potter, Frodo Baggins, Ned Stark, etc) can be played by anyone, as long as their story and personality is not changed from what is already written
- All quests are assumed to be within their starting worlds unless stated to be in a parallel version of that world in the title or first post, in which case previously existing stories, characters and personalities may be edited (quests can, of course, span over several worlds, and are not limited to the world in which they start)
- Try to stick to the individual (assumed) rules of each world (e.g. don't take guns into Middle Earth, it just isn't fair on the Elves...)
- Any world that needs specific rules for questing should have a "Rules of the World" thread, if it doesn't, feel free to create one (e.g. rules on leveling, evolution and where to find Pokémon)
- Try to maintain continuity (this is not essential, but it makes working out the timelines easier; for example, if your character meets another character for the first time in one quest, they can't meet the same person for the first time again in another quest, it just doesn't make sense)
- If you get stuck in a quest and don't know where to go or what to do next, post on the Notice Board for help and another Quester may join you
- As a general rule, don't join a quest that already has 30+ posts (a hot topic quest) unless invited, or the players in that quest post on the Notice Board opening it to other users
- If there's a world missing that you want, let the admins know either by PM or on the General Board stating the name of the world, anything special about it and who created it (if applicable)
- Let the admins know when your quest has ended so they can lock the thread. It may then be copied to a document, edited for continuity, spelling and grammar, and posted on the site in PDF form (completed quests will be added to the Completed Quests board for reading and comments - please don't be harsh in your comments, people work very hard on these stories)
- If you have out of character discussions during a quest, try to delete them once they're over (so that those reading it have the uninterrupted story)
- If you need to know more about the Questing Association as a company for your quest (or for general interest), feel free to contact the admins with your questions
- If you have any suggestions for changes to the site, let the admins know (by PM or on the General Board)
Keep calm and happy Questing!
