Nabarl was puzzled.
"What do you mean you're sending me back? I thought I had free choice over my quests now?"
The QA representative across the table from Nabarl sighed.
"Yes, Nabarl. You do. However, we have an issue. And you are one of the few currently capable of helping us here."
"Alright, I'm listening..."
"Someone has absconded to the Pokemon world with all of the badges we have in our archives. As well as some of the... stronger pokemon we were in the care of."
Nabarl raised his eyebrows.
"OK, so you need someone to go get them back. Still don't see why this is my problem..."
"Since you distrust us so much, you kept ALL of your pokemon and badges, correct?"
"Yeah... Oh. I'm guessing that's rare?"
"Yes. Many people retain some of their badges, and a few of their pokemon. But they allow us to look after the pokemon while they are not questing on that world."
"So, in esscence, I'm the only person available for this?"
"No, not the only. But our pool of candidates was limited. And, unlike the others, we have something you want..."
Nabarl was now intrigued. "And that would be?"
"The keys to your chains. Finish this quest and return the items to us, and your probation will finally be over. You'll be a fully fledged quester. With all the perks that brings." The unsaid words lingered, but Nabarl knew what he was saying. Do this right, and we can't try to kill you directly anymore...
"Alright, I get that in writing, and we have a deal. Still, as i remember, my team was a little unbalanced. And we never needed to collect more than the Kanto badges. Will there be any help on this?"
"Well, we weren't planning on starting you in Kanto. And your help will be arriving for their briefing in a seperate location. We wanted this deal to remain... private." The rep slid a contract across the table. "You asked for writing, I believe?"
"You had this prepared? OK, what's the catch?"
The rep sighed. "We were hoping you would sign before the question, but no matter. We don't know who stole the badges, or which region they fled to. All we know is they stole enough pokemon that they would have had little difficulty surrplanting any elite four member or league champion of their choosing."
"So we need to get the badges for every region, beat the top 25 trainers in the world. And we're starting at a huge level disadvantage..."
Nabarl looked at the rep, and could tell he'd said everything he was going to.
Nabarl snached up the pen and signed on the dotted line.
"Sounds like fun..."
