Alice admired Meyla's determination. If she had run into that barrier alone she would have simply left it.

Meyla kept walking forwards before bouncing off what seemed to be some kind of magical force field. She tapped it with her hand, but the air crackled and repelled her.
"Hmm, how do I get through this?" she muttered to no one in particular.
Suddenly a thought came to her. She lit a small fireball in her palm and pressed it towards the field. It gave way, allowing her hand access.
"I think you're right you know, only someone magickal can get to it." she called back to Alice.

"Okay, I'll just stay here then," Alice said, making herself comfortable on a pile of books.

Making sure she was standing well away from anything flammable, Meyla surrounded her body in flames and slowly walked through the force field. Soon as she was on the other side, she let the flames die.
The whining noise grew as she walked towards the shelf at the end of the room. There on it, a book was slowly vibrating. Meyla reached out a hand and with the tip of her finger, touched it. The book sent a wave of power that threw Meyla back into the force field, which she then bounced off of, hitting the ground with a nasty crack.

Alice winced as she saw Meyla hit the floor. "Are you okay?" she asked. She had a first aid kit in her bag if Meyla needed it (the fall had looked fairly bad), but she couldn't get through the force field.

Meyla lifted her head gently, she touched her forehead and felt blood.
"I'll be fine," she said shakily. Slowly she stood and made her way forwards again. She would make it to the book if it was the last thing she did.

Alice watched nervously as Meyla went after the book. She had full confidence that Meyla could do it, but didn't want her to get hurt within the boundaries of the magical barrier. She played with her ring and bit her lip as Meyla stepped up to where she had been shoved backward before, exhaling deeply when she didn't go flying through the air.

Meyla smiled and lit another fireball in her palm, hoping that the added magic might help her get through the book's barriers.
There was another small wave of power as Meyla surpassed the point she had previously gotten to. This time, all it did was extinguish her fireball as if accepting her presence. Meyla ran forwards and found the book. She laid two fingers on the spine and slowly pulled it from the shelf.
"I've got it!" she called back to Alice.

Alice breathed a sigh of relief as Meyla picked up the book. "That's great! Now could you bring it back here? Also if you could turn the book off or whatever the magical term is, that would be great," she said.

Meyla looked confusedly back at Alice. Once she had the book, the magical barriers would have dissipated anyway.
